The Newest Legion

Sig has done it again. Right before the closing bell in 2023, Sig Sauer—one of the largest firearms manufacturers in the world—has added another new gun to its portfolio. Like most of their newest offerings in 2023, the gun isn’t necessarily new, but more of a continuation on an existing line. That has become Sig Sauer’s MO (to be fair, that’s what most manufacturers do anymore). And like previous additions, this one is a keeper.
The P365-AXG LEGION
At first glance, the P365-AXG LEGION appears to be the little brother of the P320-AXG Legion. And, well, that’s an apt description. It maintains the distinct look, but with lines that’ve been shrunk down. What’s more interesting is that the gun sports the same capacity as its big brother—17 rounds. Nevertheless, the P365 and all its iterations are one of the most popular carry options on the market. (Only Glock and Smith & Wesson can fight Sig Sauer for the crown). What Sig does well is building off its models to create options for the consumer. This year saw the introduction of the 365 X-Macro, the largest of the 365 family, and the base for the P365-AXG Legion
As for features, the gun has a 17-round capacity with a 3.1”
long barrel, but with a slide that extends past the muzzle and puts two ports
that Sig calls “Expansion Chambers” at the nose to assist in recoil mitigation.
The slide is further equipped with night sights and an optics cut that will fit
the 507K/RomeoZero footprint. An accessory rail rides underneath that is a
perfect home for the Streamlight TLR-7 Sub. The most important change, however,
is the pistol’s frame. The AGX designation supports that this pistol sports an
aluminum frame instead of the typical polymer. This stiffens the gun and adds a
few ounces of weight. While creating a heavier gun for concealed carry appears
counterintuitive, the weight improves the shooting experience.
Lastly, the P365-AXG is a member of Sig Sauer’s Legion line, therefore, it comes standard with the Legion drip. This includes the Legion Cerakote Gray finish, extended magwell, G10 Chevron grip panels, and membership into Sig’s exclusive club.
Final Thoughts
The question that bears in mind: Is the P365-AXG Legion the ultimate carry gun? The answer, maybe? To the right person, yes. But at $1200 it is not the best carry gun for most people. Since this is Sig’s highest trim level, it comes with the expected price tag. But if this does fit someone’s budget, it checks almost all the boxes. The P365-AXG Legion blends the line between a carry gun and a duty weapon but with style and class. It is well-balanced, easy to shoot, and feature-rich. The P365-AXG Legion will be hitting dealer shelves soon and I’m sure it will be in demand and hard to find.
